Five Ways to Avoid Delays in Filing Your Tax Return

Here’s what you’ll need to get ready for tax season and minimise delays.
It’s also a good idea to have the following documents on hand:

Form W-2

This document, according to the IRS, contains vital tax and income information from your employer.
Furthermore, a law passed in 2015 requires businesses to file copies of W-2 and W-3 forms with the Social Security Administration by January 31.
If you haven’t already, you should expect to receive a W-2 form soon.

Letter and Form for Child Tax Credit

The IRS will send a letter to those who have already received child tax credit payments.
The document will be labelled “6419” and will include important details such as the number of children who are eligible for tax credits and the total amount of tax credit payments received in 2021.
If you didn’t get them, you’ll be able to claim the whole $3,600 on your tax return if you didn’t get them.
Additionally, you can fill out Schedule 8812 (Form 1040) if you didn’t receive any tax credits in 2021.

Form for Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit

Eligible families can receive up to $8,000 in tax credits this year by filling out form 2441.
The Rescue Act also increased the tax benefits for children and dependents.

The EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) is a tax credit

The earned income tax credit is available to low and moderate-income families.
For the 2021 tax year, the maximum credit for persons without children has been increased from $543 to $1,502.
To be eligible, low-income working Americans without children must earn no more than $21,430 per year, or $27,380 per year if married and filing jointly.
To supply the IRS with extra information, you must submit a schedule EIC (Form 1040 or 1040-SR), according to the IRS.

Letter of Stimulus

While millions of people are still owed $1,400 stimulus payments, the majority of Americans received them as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Those who got these might expect a letter numbered “6475” in the mail.
